The One With March Plans-Week 1

Hi Friends! I'm excited about the cute activities and things we will learn this month!

Here is the printable calendar for March. Print this bad boy out and stick it on your fridge! If you're feeling a moment of desperation, just check out your fridge and pick an activity! :)
All files on my page are free printables! Feel free to use them. All the links are at the end of this post.

Ss Dot Art*
Directions: Print file.  Allow child to decorate the uppercase and lowercase S. (You can use circle stickers, dot stampers, play dough pieces, or pom poms) You can read Dr Suess's ABC book and demonstrate which letter is big S and which one is little s.
Teacher note: Emphasize that /s/ says "ssss", as in the sound a snake makes, not "suh".
(My daughters work so very differently!)

Pentagon Coloring Page*
Directions: Print file. Introduce the shape as a pentagon. Discuss that it has 5 sides. Count the sides. Discuss the 5 corners together, and count them as well. Invite the child to decorate the pentagon however they choose. I had my girls color it green since that is the color of the month. We also stuck stickers on the 5 corners, and that really helped them visualize the corners. Older preschoolers can trace the letters in the word "pentagon".

Rainbow Sponge Painting
Directions: On a paper plate, squirt out paint in parallel rows in rainbow order. Encourage your child to dip a rectangular sponge onto the rainbow palate and use it as a stamp. My girls started with the sponge at the base of the page, and smeared it upwards to make a rainbow streak! They really were excited and ooooohing and ahhhhing each time they made a rainbow! They made lots on their papers!

S snack: Kid Sushi
Directions: All you need is a banana, peanut butter (or allergy friendly alternative!) and a tortilla. Spread the peanut butter all over the tortilla and lay the banana on top. Wrap the banana as tightly as you can! I added some honey as well to make a good seal! (Also? Delicious.) Then use a sharp knife to cut into slices! Voila! The girls loooooved this, and it took only 3 minutes or something! It's a great lunch or snack! S is for sushi, but clearly I'm not a professional food photographer.

S is for Snake Paper Plate
Directions: Cut a paper plate apart into a spiral in order to look like a snake. Decorate the head, (you can even add eyes and a tongue!) Discuss that the word snake starts with the letter S! The letter s even looks like a snake! Invite them to decorate their snake. Mine love to paint, so we did that! :) Plus, lots of snakes are green, so that reinforced the color of the month. I love how this all worked out!

Green Coloring Page*
Directions: Print file. Introduce green as the color of the month. Show the toddler the crayon and ask them to decorate it green. (Using crayons, markers, paint, water colors, etc) Spell out g-r-e-e-n for them. Older preschoolers can trace the letters in the word green. Throughout the day, look for green things around the house!

(My twins did this. Again, it's safe to say that one is more particular than the other!)

S Letter Recognition*
Directions: Print file. Hopefully our kiddos will be able to recognize the letter S by Friday! Test this out by printing off this page. Show them the Ss in the top left corner of the page. "These are sssssocks and they start with the letter S! Can you see any S's hiding on these sssssocks?" Invite them to mark the S's with dot art markers, stickers, or even just circling them. Have fun!

Handprint Counting
Directions: This is a simple, yet important skill; counting fingers. First, trace your child's hand. Then, count the fingers on the hand. Emphasize the important from counting left to right, to promote reading readiness. Label each finger 1-5. Afterwards I asked, "Which finger is #3? Can you show me where the 5 is?" Throughout the day, you can count their fingers and toes! (Tracing their foot would also be fun!)
